Maximize a Doctors Visit - The Visit

We’ve talked about it before, but its so very important to accept your doctor as a normal human that goes to work every day, eats dinner every night. Pants on one leg at a time… Etc… It’s okay to treat them this way too. Remind them why you are there. Push them to really answer your questions, address your concerns, and find a solution to whatever the problem is that you have. (You can disagree with the doc here if they have a solution you don’t like.) If there is an outcome from the doctors appointment you are at that you should expect? If it doesn’t happen, what should you do?

In order to make the most out of your visit you should bring the following:

  • A List of Questions that you have researched,

  • A Zip Lock Back full of all your current medications including your over the counter medications

  • A questioning mind - Remember they see 15 - 20 patients a day! They are used to the conversation they are about to have with you. You do this once. Its okay to ask as many questions as possible and to literally question the doctor.

  • A pen and paper or keep that notes section open on your phone

  • If you have a hard time asking questions (its okay if you do) or remembering details, bring a friend or family member to the appointment. Its completely fine to ask for help!

Agree on a follow up plan - Are there more appointments you need to schedule? What are the outcomes from those appointments that you need to expect?
